Abstract:Objective To explore the new progress in the anatomical elements of rotator cuff injury in previous studies and researches for providing theoretical basis for clinical prevention, treatment and recovery of rotator cuff injury. Methods The key words about “rotator cuff injury, supraspinatus, sub-acromial space, scapular glenoid” have been used to search eligible articles of rotator cuff injury published before December 2014 in both English database (PubMed) and Chinese database (WanFang). The results of the research on the anatomy of rotator cuff injury were summarized. Results There are several anatomical factors giving rise to rotator cuff injury mainly including shape anomalies of acromion and glenoid cavity, decrease in sub-acromial space, damage of rotator interval and structure of supraspinatus. Conclusions Anatomical factors should be comprehensively considered in treatment and recovery of rotator cuff injury to achieve optimal effects.
