Abstract:Objective To study the application of portable video microscope in supraorbital subfrontal approach. Methods The anterior skull base and the sellar region were exposed and observed through portable video microscopic supraorbital subfrontal approach on fresh and perfused human adult cadaveric heads (five specimens respectively) after the free bony flap craniectomy was made above the superciliary arch and laterally to the supraorbital foramen. Results Optic nerves, optic chiasm, pituitary gland, olfactory nerves, the internal carotid artery and its bifurction and the original part of the ophthalmic artery, etc. in the anterior skull base and the sellar region were exposed clearly and lifelikely through portable video microscopic supraorbital subfrontal approach. Conclusions Portable video microscopic supraorbital subfrontal approach enables micrergy to work in the anterior skull base and the sellar region.
