Abstract:Objective A study was conducted to summarize the research advances on preoperative measurement and intramedullary nail length in femoral and tibial fractures and to provide reference for clinical application. Methods “股骨” “胫骨” “髓内钉长度” “术前测量” “femur” “tibia” “intramedullary length” and “preoperative measurement” were used as the Chinese and English keywords for searching articles on preoperative measurement and intramedullary nail length that were published before 8 May 2020 in Wanfang Medicine, PubMed, Springerlink, and other Chinese and English databases. A total of 879 pieces of literature were searched, and 28 literatures were finally included after excluding those with inconsistent content, inaccessible full text, and repetitive research. Results Generally, few literatures were about the preoperative measurement and intramedullary nail length of femoral and tibial fractures. Radiometry and body surface landmark measurement were the two main research methods used in the studies. Radiometric measurements often require a complete contralateral bone as a reference. X-ray measurement was more commonly used, and CT measurement was more accurate than other methods. However, these abovementioned methods have shortcomings, such as radiation exposure. No radiation exposure is required in the body surface landmark measurement method, which is simple and easy to operate, but it also has some shortcomings, such as measurement error. Conclusions Preoperative measurement shows a good application prospect in the evaluation of intramedullary nail length. Our clinical efforts are geared toward finding simple measurement methods for intramedullary nail preoperative planning.
