Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical results of Ishiguro method in the treatment of acute closed mallet finger accompanied by avulsion fracture. Methods The data of 6 cases with acute closed mallet finger accompanied by avulsion fracture treated from June 2011 to June 2013 in Xian Central hospital were retrospectively analyzed. There were 5 males and 1 female with an average age of 37 years. There were right (4 cases) and left (2 cases). All the cases were treated by Ishiguro method. X-rays were taken in the regular follow-up to confirm the bone union. The functional recovery was evaluated by using Dargan′s method. Results Operations were successfully completed. The patients were followed up for 3-12 months(averaged 4 months), during which no puncture wound infection, displacement of the fracture fragment occurred. Bone union occurred in all cases with roentgenographic evidence during 4-8 weeks after operation(averaged 6 weeks). Mallet defomaity of 6 cases disappeared and satisfactory appearance were achieved. According to Dargan′s method, the effects of 3 fingers were excellent, 2 were good, and 1 was fair. Conclusions Ishiguro method is an effective procedure in treating closed mallet finger accompanied by avulsion fracture. The procedure is simple, reliable and minimally invasive with few complications. This technique can be advocated in clinical practice.
