Abstract:Objective To investigate the application of ultrasound elastography in the evaluation of neoadjuvant endocrine therapy (NET) in breast cancer. Methods The clinical data of 38 patients who had pathologically confirmed Ⅱ, Ⅲ stage breast cancer in the Second Affilicated Hospital of Harbin Medical University from March 2010 to December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Thirty-eight cases of patients were treated with Femara, all patients were examined by ultrasound elastography before the medication and operation. The changes of the index of tumor volume, maximum velocity of blood flow (Vmax), resistance index (RI) in the tumors and the elasticity score were observed and recorded before and after treatment. Correlation analysis was performed among the postoperative pathology of the tumor area reduction and the four indicators. Results For 38 patients the tumor volume reduction(11.13±8.26)cm3, RI(21.63±7.63) and values of Vmax(1.27±0.65)cm/s in the tumors decreased, the same with the elasticity score(3.60±0.54), all changes had statistical significance difference (t=7.146, t=8.104, t=2.662, t=6.854, all P values<0.01). Correlation analysis among the four indicators and the area decrease of tumor cells according to the pathology after surgery was made. As a result, there was a highly correlation between the area decrease of tumor cells and the RI, for the elasticity score there was a moderate correlation. Low correlation with the tumor volume (r=-0.857, r=-0.449, r=-0.324, all P values<0.05). No significance relation with Vmax intratumoral blood flow(r=-0.174, P>0.05).Conclusions There was a certain predictive value of postoperative pathological reaction for the tumor volume, elastic score, RI, Vmax measured by the ultrasound elastography, and the tumor volume, elastic score and RI reflect the degree of postoperative pathological response of tumors better.
